Jharsuguda: Taking a pro-active leap towards a greener and sustainable future, Vedanta Limited Jharsuguda observed World Environment Day on June 5 2017. In line with this year’s theme, ‘Connecting people to Nature’, Vedanta Jharsuguda launched its Environment day campaign earlier this month with a mass plantation drive in Jharsuguda city on 1st June 2017 in which 6500 saplings were distributed to people.
Continuing the campaign, on the occasion of World environment day, the events rolled out with a mass plantation drive outside the Vedanta Main gate in which all the senior management members and employee volunteers actively took part under the leadership of Mr. Dayanidhi Behera, Head Smelter Operations, Vedanta Jharsuguda. Also present on the occasion were Mr. Dilip Ranjan Sahoo, Head HR, Mr G.G Pal, Head Operations Smelter 2, Mr. J. K Mohanty, Head CPP and Mr K A Chowdhury, Head Growth Project along with Environment team of Vedanta Jharsuguda who facilitated the event under the guidance of Dr. A S P Mishra, Head Environment.
Spreading the message about the need of sustainable environment the campaign carried on with mass plantation drives in other parts of the plant like Smelter 1, Smelter 2, CPP and IPP. With this, Vedanta Jharsuguda’s Green Campaign distributed plant sapling & successfully spread awareness about the need of plantation among employees and partners company through various competitions like Green champion competition and Eco Friendly Partner in Progress contest etc.
The 6 days long green campaign flagged off with a closing ceremony inside the plant premises in which all the senior officials along with employee took part. Winners of different competitions were felicitated during the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Dayanidhi Behera, highlighted ‘go green’ culture as the need of the hour, which is not just an organization’s responsibility but an individual’s duty towards the environment.
