Tata Steel celebrates International Women’s Day by painting Jamshedpur green

Jamshedpur: To mark the occasion of International Women’s Day 2020, Tata Steel organised a mass plantation drive for women of Jamshedpur on March 8-9 at Ramdas Bhatta Community Centre of Tata Steel.

The event was inaugurated today by Mr Suresh Dutt Tripathi, Vice President, Human Resource Management, Tata Steel who was Chief Guest. Present on the occasion were Mr Avneesh Gupta, Vice President, TQM & Shared Services, Tata Steel, members of Diversity & Inclusion Council of Tata Steel & women participants from across the city.

Welcoming the guests and the participants, Ms Madhulika Sharma, Chief, Corporate Sustainability set the context of the programme and shared how this initiative celebrates the spirit of womanhood.

In his address, Mr Suresh Dutt Tripathi appreciated the initiative that conveys a strong message on environment conservation and nurturing Mother Earth. He also said that in today’s times of deforestation and environmental pollution, organising such initiative holds significance.

Around 300 women participants including Tata Steel employees, trainees, teachers, housewives, students etc engaged in the plantation drive during morning hours. The volunteers from JUSCO, Swachhata hi pukaare team, XLRI & Tata Steel Urban services were present on the occasion.

This initiative is based on the concept of Miyawaki forestation and targets to plant 1500 saplings in two days.

The citizens of Jamshedpur are requested to come and join the initiative for a cleaner & greener Jamshedpur for a better tomorrow.
