Bhubaneswar: A workshop on Goods and Services Tax for MLAs was organised by Finance Department and Odisha Legislative Assembly Secretariat on 17th May 2017 in newly constructed Conference Hall of Odisha Legislative Assembly. Hon’ble Chief Minister Sj. Naveen Pattnaik inaugurated the conference Hall and the workshop. Hon’ble Speaker Sj. Pradip Kumar Amat, Hon’ble Dy. Speaker Sj. Sananda Marndi, Hon’ble Leader of Opposition Sj. Narasingh Mishra, Hon’ble Minister Rural Development, Parliamentary Affairs and Information & Public Relations Sj. Bikram Keshari Arukh and Hon’ble Minister Finance & Excise Sj. Shashi Bhusan Behera and other Members of the Council of Ministers and Hon’ble MLAs attended the workshop in large numbers.
In the inaugural session Principal Secretary Finance Sj. Tuhin Kanta Pandey delivered the welcome address. After the introductory remarks of Sj. Bikram Keshari Arukh, Hon’ble Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Sj. Pradip Kumar Amat, Hon’ble Speaker, Hon’ble Chief Minister Sj. Patnaik delivered the inaugural address. Hon’ble Chief Minister observed that GST will have a number of benefits for business and consumers as well as the Govt. and expressed the hope that the Workshop will provide the better clarity about the nuances of GST to the legislators.
In the Technical session, a joint presentation was made by Principal Secretary Finance Sj.T. K. Pandey and Director General, National Academy of Customs, Excise & Narcotics (NACEN) Sj. P. K. Dash on the features of GST, Training and Capacity building measures taken by Central & State Government. The legislators actively interacted with the experts about various issues with regard to implementation of GST.
In the concluding session, Hon’ble Leader
of Opposition Sj. Narasingh Mishra and Hon’ble Minister Finance & Excise Sj. Shashi Bhusan Behera addressed the participants. Secretary Odisha Legislative Assembly Sj.Amiya Kumar Sarangi proposed a vote of Thanks.
