Bhubaneswar: ‘Mining in Odisha’, an event aimed to explore the opportunities in Bauxite, Iron Ore & Non Ferrous minerals was organized by ASSOCHAM in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The event was graced by Shri Prafulla Kumar Malik, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Department of Steel & Mines as the Chief Guest, Shri Subhash Chandra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Mines, and industry captains including Mr. Ajay Kumar Dixit, CEO – Alumina & Power, Vedanta Limited; Dr. T.K Chand, CMD NALCO; Sandeep Jajodia, President- ASSOCHAM among others.
Mr. Dixit emphasized on the importance of the exploration of minerals in Odisha conducted through sustainable and green practices enabled by cutting edge technology. He envisioned Odisha as the next Australia in terms of world class development and an improved quality of life as a result of successful mining and manufacturing activities. He also highlighted Vedanta’s expertise, as one of the largest mining companies of the world, to enable acceleration of the mining and exploration processes by partnering with the government. “Mines are the germination point for industrial and downstream investments. We have even committed to support start-ups with innovative ideas in this domain. India can be a world leader in aluminium production and Odisha can be the epicentre of this revolution. We have stretched our hand and want it to be held for taking Odisha become a jewel in crown of India”, he added.
Vedanta Limited will ramp up its alumina production to 4MT and gradually to 6MT in the future which will become the world’s single largest centre at Odisha. It has also contributed immensely in community development by investing heavily in healthcare, education, vocational skill development, childcare and women empowerment in Kalahandi and Jharsuguda.
