Bhubaneswar: A splendid Convocation ceremony of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) – Bhubaneswar was held at KIMS Auditorium, Bhubaneswar where degrees were awarded to as many as 185 graduating students of the class of 2019. Shri. Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Honorable Minister of Micro, Small and medium enterprises; and Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Govt of India graced the occasion as chief guest along with Shri. Sushant Kumar Rout, MLA Bhubaneswar-North and Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director- IIM Sambalpur as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Honorable Minister of Micro, Small and medium enterprises; and Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Govt of India said, “When the country is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Mahatma, the symbol of sustainability, the NIFT campus brings pride to the state by being registered as the world’s first sustainable fashion campus”
Shri. Sushant Kumar Rout, MLA Bhubaneswar-North who while addressing the students extended his support and appreciation towards the steps NIFT Bhubaneswar is taking and offered any future help needed to take the campus to the summits of success. Further Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director IIM Sambalpur further appreciated the spirit of innovation and creativity of students in the field of fashion.
The academic procession was led by the Chief Guest which got succeeded by the Guest of Honours, DG NIFT, Director NIFT Bhubaneswar, Center Coordinators and the medal winners. Dr Binaya Bhusan Jena Director NIFT then presented the Annual Academic Report where he elaborated on what were the milestones achieved during the year and how the institute has very well managed to grow not just linearly but in a variety of aspects.The NIFT academic curriculum incorporates internships, industry visits, outbound programmes as well as real life projects, seminars and interactions that provide opportunities for students to appreciate and understand the working of the industry. The ceremony got extended by the administration of oath to the graduates by the Dean-NIFT. Shri Shantmanu, IAS,Director General NIFT addressed the crowd.
The Chief Guest conferred awards to the students for their best performance as well as the Degree certificates to the graduates of all the departments including Dept. of Fashion management studies, Fashion technology department, Dept. of fashion and life style and accessories’, Dept. of Fashion communication, Dept. of Fashion design, Dept. of Textiles design. Few merit awards presented during the Convocation are NIFT Student of the year Award to Agrima Singh of Dept of Bachelor of Fashion Technology and NIFT Extraordinary Service Award to Sampriti Singha Babu of Dept of Fashion Communication. Prof. Sushmita Behera, Associate Prof. and Campus academic coordinator, NIFT, Bhubaneswar delivered her vote of thanks.
NIFT offers a meticulous training of 4 years to the under graduates and of 2 years to the post graduates. The course shapes the students to provide creative design, management and technological solutions for a plethora of problems and serve the fashion, management, technology as well as the communication industry to the best possible. Students are exposed to work in stimulating environments with industry projects focusing on integrative abilities that use skills ranking from technical expertise to creative exposure. With all the skill set the campus, as a whole never steps back in conserving the environment and using the resources available wisely and also has been recently in buzz for its attempt in going green. NIFT aims to be the only institution in the world where students can see the entire sustainable fashion value chain from farm to fashion.
