Narendrapur: Tata Steel BSL, has taken the initiative to light the streets of villages around its plant at Narendrapur of Dhenkanal District. More than 100 environment friendly solar street lights have been installed in 10 villages of Hindol and Odapada block of Dhenkanal district and Barnapala block of Angul District.
The villages include Kurunti, Kusupanga, Narendrapur, Sibapur, Sarapa, Raghunathpur, Nuagaon, Ganthigadia, Talbahal and Kantabania market. More than 8000 people residing in the villages will be benefited from it. As the street lights are powered by solar panels from renewable energy, this is very environment friendly.
Expressing happiness on the initiative, Mr Pankaj Pradhan, Sarpanch, Kusupanga, Grampanchayat said; ” Villages used to remain in dark during the night earlier. This was causing difficulties for children and senior citizens in their day-to-day life to come out of their houses in the night. After the installation of the solar lights, the nightlife has really transformed in our villages.”
The project has been implemented with active coordination of members of CSR Department of Tata Steel BSL.
