Sambalpur: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has sanctioned Rs 21.76 lakh for construction of a hostel for Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste students at Lokakabi Haldhar Avasik Banavidyalaya, a school in the name of noted poet Padamshree Halder Nag, in Bargarh district of Odisha.
A subsidiary of Coal India under Ministry of Coal, MCL’s hostel will have a capacity to accommodate 50 students at Lokakabi Haldhar Avasik Banavidyalaya, Kudopali.
MCL’s this initiative to build a SC/ST hostel under CSR is aimed at bridging resource gap in rural education sector by upgrading the infrastructure. First installment of Rs. 3.26 lakh has been deposited this month with District Planning and Monitoring Unit (DPMU), Bargarh and the project is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of financial year 2019-20.
The school situated at Kudopali village near Sohela in the bordering area of Chhattisgarh and Odisha was established in 2009-10 as an honorary gesture to the great poet of the region.
Most of the students enrolled in the school are from poor economic background hailing from SC/ST communities..
