Madhya Pradesh Minister Prem Singh Patel asks department to arrange for motorette tricycle repairing for the disabled

Bhopal: Social Justice and Disabled Welfare Minister Shri Prem Singh Patel has told the departmental officers that under government schemes, vehicles like motorette tricycles etc. are given to the differently-abled. The maintenance of these tricycles also should be taken care of by the department, so that the differently abled persons do not face any problem. Shri Patel said that the charge of this work should also be given to a differently abled person after training in each district. It is often noticed that if God deprives a person in any way, he makes sure to bless him with some special attribute. He told the officials to call the representatives of the differently-abled and listen to their problems then make welfare scheme on the basis of their suggestions. Shri Patel said this while reviewing the departmental activities today. Principal Secretary of the department Shri Prateek Hajela, Director Shri Swatantra Kumar and senior officers were present in the meeting.

Ensure responsibility in distribution of widow pension

Shri Patel said that the responsibility of the concerned district officer should be fixed to ensure that widowed women are getting their pension. The pension schemes being provided by the department should be monitored every week. It was informed in the meeting that between September-2019 and September-2020, an amount of Rs 1351 crore 94 lakh was provided to the beneficiaries under Social Security Pension.

About 1500 differently abled people get married in a year

It was informed in the meeting that every year around 1300 to 1500 marriages take place under the Disabled Marriage Incentive Scheme with an expenditure of about Rs 25 to 30 crores. Rs 10 crore is spent on distribution of laptops, motorette tricycles, assistive devices, camps, housing assistance schemes etc. to the differently-abled.

Shri Patel also directed the department to extend support in providing employment to the differently-abled. Disabled Rehabilitation Centers are being run for the disabled in 51 out of 52 districts of the state. The process of starting a rehabilitation center in the new district Niwari is in progress. There are 66 old age homes for the elderly in the state.

Schools for the disabled not being operated due to Covid

Shri Patel informed that 20 government institutions, 37 with state grant and 26 institutions are run by Nirashrit Nidhi for education and training of the differently-abled in the state. The total number of children enrolled in the institutions in the year 2019-20 is 3614, but due to Corona, schools are not being operated since the last 2 years.
