Kerala Tourism receives ‘Best Honeymoon Destination’ award

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Tourism bagged the ‘Best Honeymoon Destination’ award at the 6th edition of Travel + Leisure India’s Best Awards 2017. Dr. Venu V, Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala received this prestigious award.
On the 11th Anniversary in the South Asian region, Travel + Leisure India & South Asia announced the results of its sixth edition of the India’s Best Awards. The poll was conducted through the magazine’s website over a period of two months starting September this year.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Venu V, Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala stated, “Receiving such a prestigious award was a euphoric moment for the tourism department. With its perennial growth trajectory, the popularity of the state has been growing as the most sought-after destination across the globe. The tourism department will continue to spearhead the process of planning and executing the development plans in the state with the aim of promoting the state tourism.”
With 97 awards across 57 categories that range from the best country, emerging destination, cruise, business hotel, airport, destination spa, and honeymoon destinations in India and across the world, thousands of Travel + Leisure India & South Asia’s discerning readers have had voted. The polls secured a record total of 1,48,941 votes this year, an overwhelming increase of around 30% since last year.
Demonstrating the growth of Kerala Tourism, Mr. P. Bala Kiran, IAS, Director, Kerala Tourism and Managing Director, Kannur International Airport said, “One of the notable things about such prestigious awards is that they inspire other travel enthusiasts to visit and experience unexplored destinations. Owing to the growing popularity, Kerala has witnessed 100 percent growth from domestic markets including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and West Bengal, over the period of five years.”
Kerala is famed for its romantic cottages, cloudy mountains, lively tea gardens, green valleys and on-going background sound of waterfalls. The calm climate of this picturesque place makes it one of the most preferred honeymoon destinations across India.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Kadakampally Surendran, Honorable Minister for Tourism, Government of Kerala said, “I extend my heartiest congratulation to the tourism department for their efforts to promote the state tourism. With the aim of showcasing the diversified tourism products and services, Kerala Tourism has undertaken various initiatives in order to attract tourists from all corners of the world. We are hopeful to keep up the positive momentum.”
