Angul: Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. (JSPL) Angul celebrated the World Environment Day with a host of activities to mark the occasion. Like previous years a run for environment, known as Green Marathon, along with massive plantation drive was organised at Jindal Nagar Township and periphery villages in Angul. JSPL’s Executive Director (Maintenance) Mr. Suresh Kumar flagged off the Green Marathon in presence of President and Head-Steel Making Zone Mr. Damodar Mittal, EVP – CGP Mr. A.N. Tiwari, Dy. Environment Engineer of Odisha State Pollution Control Board, Angul Regional Office Mr. Rakesh Kumar Mohanty, Yoga Guru Swami Satyabindu Saraswati, various other departmental heads, employees with their family members and villagers from the surrounding. The participants pledged to ‘beat air pollution’ and spread awareness about environment protection and sustainable development. The green marathon was concluded with plantation by the participants.
On this occasion the Chairman of JSPL Mr. Naveen Jindal also reached out to the mass through different social networking sites and asked everyone to plant at least one tree on this World Environment Day.
The Environment Management Department (EMD) of JSPL has also organized a series of Drawing, Essay and Quiz competitions on the theme of environment protection and mitigation of air pollution. School students, house wives and employees took part in the competitions and the winners were also felicitated with certificate of merit and trophies by the Guests.
The EMD department under the guidance of JSPL management and its HoD Mr. Alok Kumar Sahu coordinated the programme.
