Bhubaneswar: GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL), which operates 1050 MW coal-fired power plant at Kamalanga in Dhenkanal district, celebrated the 71th Independence Day with patriotic zeal at its plant premises. Mr. Ramesh R Pai, Chief Operating Officer (COO), unfurled the National Flag after receiving the guard of honour from RAXA security marshals and Fire Personnel.
Greeting employees & workers, Mr. Pai said, “We are indebted to the leaders who sacrificed their everything to get our freedom and we have a responsibility as a Corporate Citizen to bring positive change and we are committed for the growth and prosperity of our region.” Mr. Pai extolled the employees and workers for their continuous effort to make GKEL one of the best power plants in the country. “Your (employees) effort is commendable. Keep it up,” he said.
“We have adopted a policy of Triple Bottom Line (TBL) where we give importance to People, Planet and Profits. We have taken up many initiatives for the welfare of the Employees, Workers and all other Stakeholders. We have also developed a Greenery beyond the statutory requirements to protect the Environment. Installation of a Bio-digester and segregation of Waste is also a move in the same direction. We also carry out many CSR and LRP activities to ensure the prosperity of the surrounding community,” Pai said.
The Republic Day celebration was raised to eye-catching flamboyance with fantastic cultural presentation by Raxa Securities, Fire Department and Employees. The fire personnel also demonstrated a tri-colour by spraying water into the sky on the occasion. Mr. Pai distributed prizes to security and fire personnel for their bravery and achievements during the year.
In order to encourage girl education, Mr. Pai distributed scholarships to ten meritorious girl students of Class-X and Class-VII pass-outs of Kamalanga and Mangalpur Panchayat in Dhenkanal district. GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, the CSR arm of GMR Group will provide scholarships for two years to Class-X and three years for Class-VII students.
GMR Varalakshmi DAV Public School also hoisted the tricolour with patriotic fervour at its school ground followed by various cultural programs. Mrs Sandhya Pai, President, Pragati Ladies Club and Mr. Ramesh R Pai, COO, GKEL felicitated the 6 students who passed out in 10th Standard from the School in flying colours. The School Principal Mrs Ahalyabai Sahoo highlighted the excellent performance of the School in the last 10th Standard Results as well as in other co-curricular activities.
