Dharamshala: To mark the beginning of the 60th year, since His Holiness the Dalai Lama along with ten thousands of Tibetans escaped into India, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) Is organising a special event on
‘Remembering March 17, 1959’ at The Dalai Lama temple, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, March 17, 2018.
On this day in 1959, at age 24 His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the dead of the night under dramatic circumstances stepped out of Norbulingka, his winter palace, masquerading as a soldier and embarked on a dangerous journey, crossing the Himalayas on foot with a retinue of soldiers and cabinet members.
Since then, India has been a second home for Tibetan people and the country provided profound support for the Tibetan freedom struggle.
To remember March 17, 1959, the story the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) is marking a special event on March 17, 2018, in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
Dalai Lama will be joined by eighty -year old Naren Chandra Das, the lone known survivor of the seven Indian personnel who were the first to receive the Dalai Lama on Indian soil on March 31,1959, at Chuthangmo/Khenzimani, north of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, the place where His Holiness was first received by Indian officials on the Indian soil.
