Centre sanctioned assistance of Rs 4,679.09 crore to Odisha to carry out relief , restoration works in Cyclone Fani-affected areas

Bhubaneswar: The Centre has sanctioned an assistance of Rs 4,679.09 crore to the State to carry out relief and restoration works in the Cyclone Fani-affected districts. This was revealed by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Replying to a question by BJP member Jual Oram, he said the Centre had granted Rs 340.875 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) fund on April 29 in advance.

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the State, an additional Rs 1,000 crore was given, the Minister informed.

Meanwhile, the Centre formed an inter-Ministerial Central team which visited the State twice to assess the damages. On basis of the team’s report, the Centre granted an additional assistance of Rs 3,338.22 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), Rai said.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for providing Rs 552 crore to Odisha for undertaking restoration works in the Cyclone Bulbul-affected areas.
