BJP MPs from Odisha urged Centre to include Shree Jagannath Temple of Puri ,Sun Temple of Konark in list of India’s Iconic Tourist Sites

Bhubaneswar: BJP MPs from Odisha of Friday urged Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel to include the Shree Jagannath Temple of Puri and the Sun Temple of Konark in the list of India’s Iconic Tourist Sites.

In a letter, the MPs mentioned that the Shreemandir and the Sun Temple are holiest pilgrim sites and attractive tourist destinations of the State on grounds of religious, cultural and architectural importance. The matchless mix of heritage and spirituality makes the two temples in Puri district truly iconic among the country’s greatest tourist attraction places.

“We appreciate your Ministry’s initiative of developing 17 tourism sites across the country under the Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. We seek your personal intervention for the inclusion of the Jagannath Temple and the Sun Temple in the project with suitable budgetary provisions for their comprehensive development,” read the letter read.

The MPs added that the inclusion of both the temples in the list of Iconic Tourist Sites would make people of Odisha proud.

The letter was signed by MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Nitesh Gangdeb, Sangeeta Singh Deo and Aswini Vaishnaw, among others.
