New Delhi: Congratulating Mr Himanta Biswa Sarma on being sworn in as Chief Minister of Assam, ASSOCHAM today said it is confident about the new government rising to the ongoing global health challenge and meeting aspirations of the people in the post-Covid period.
“Mr Sarma, known for his organising skills and grip on issues of immediate interest to people, would deliver on the needs and aspirations of the people of Assam. Moreover, his deep inside and experience about the entire North East region would be a great positive for the region’s progress,” ASSOCHAM Secretary General Mr Deepak Sood said.
He said ASSOCHAM, India’s top industry and business organisation, would work with the Chief Minister and his entire team for the holistic development of the state and the region.
“ASSOCHAM would be happy to contribute towards your effort in leveraging the strength of the state in pushing the pace of its economic development that would result in higher employment and prosperity for its people,” he said.
Mr Sood said, as is the case with the rest of India, the immediate and most pressing task before the state is to contain and break the COVID-19 chain, with the minimum impact on the economic activities. “ASSOCHAM would support all your efforts in this endeavour,” he said.
The potential areas of growth for Assam in the post-COVID period would be tourism, horticulture, plantation and processing, food processing, herbal products and building logistics.
