Nandanik creates history by performing drama on invitation at Government Theatre Festival in Kolkata

Kolkata: Nandanik performed its play ‘Chandaluni’ on 29th November 2019 at Sisir Mancha. The play was performed on invitation as a part of the prestigious Natyamela, the annual theatre festival organized by Paschim Banga Natya Akademi, Department of Information & Cultural Affairs, Government of West Bengal.
This was a historic occasion as it was only the second time a Odia play was performed in the prestigious 19 year old government theatre festival. It was the first time that a theatre group from southern Odisha & KBK region performed on invitation in a government theatre festival in West Bengal. The play was performed in a housefull auditorium attended by theatre stalwarts of Kolkata and was well appreciated. After the play Dr Sourav Gupta, the director received the felicitation on behalf of Nandanik.
The play Chandaluni is adapted from Balaram Das’ ‘Lakhmipuran shria chandaluni katha’ & directed by Dr Sourav Gupta. Ranjit Jena, Sanam Gahan, Sitangshu Rath, Pradeep Routray, Subas Darji, Rashmi Khara, Minati Mandi, Saumendra Swain, Sthitikalpa Swain, Sharda Khuntia, Monideepa Gupta, Subhas Chandra Behera, Rasbihari Mandal and Tankadhar Behera participated in the play.
