52nd Rath Yatra Mahostav of Lord Shri Jagannath at Thyagraj Nagar, New Delhi

New Delhi : Thousands of devotees thronged Shri Jagannath mandir, Thyagraj Nagar, Jagananth Marg, Near Safdarjung Bus Terminal in south Delhi to Witness the famous Rath Yatra ( Car Festival ) of Lord Shri Jagannath on 4th Jul,2019. This is one of the oldest Shri jagannath temples of Delhi and NCR which celebrated its 52nd year celebration of Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. All rituals of the day started with Mangala Alati of the Deities at 04:30 AM. The Yatra began at 110:00AM with one of its kind ritual called “Pahandi Bije’ As the deities of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and sister Subhadra were lovingly swung out of the Shrine by the Pandas and the devotees and installed on the Rath by 1.00 PM. “Chhera Panhara“ was performed by the Parton Shri Sudhakar Moahapatra, Ex- Director Oil India Limited at 1: 30 PM. About 50 thousands devotees coming from various parts of Delhi and NCR participated in the celebration. All the rituals associated with Lord Jagannath were also performed in the Mandir in consonance with the rituals followed in Shri Jaggannath Temple Rath Yatra, Puri.

On this day the Lord of Universe comes out of His Shrine to give “Darshan” to the devotees, who can touch and hug Him, while paying their obeisance. The festival marks the tradition of Jagannath Parampara where everyone is invited and welcomed. This symbolises unique union of devotees with The Lord irrespective of caste, creed, gender and religion.

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan – Shri Manish Sishodia, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Govt of NCT, Delhi , Shri MadanLal, Hon’ble M.L.A. Govt of NCT , Delhi , Shri Vinod Karotia – Hon’ble Councillor, Smt. Kusum Lata – Hon’ble Ex Councillor & Smt. ShikhaRai – Hon’bleChair person of SDMC Standing Committee & Councillor, Smt. Ruby Yadav Phogat – Hon’ble Cultural Cell Head, Delhi Pradesh, Shri Kunal Kohli – Hon’ble President, Cultural Cell, Dist. New Delhi. Shri Neeraj Basoya- Honble Ex- MLA, Shri Mahesh Sahoo – Hon’ble MP ( Lok Sabha) and a number of Senior Govt officers participated in the Rath Yatra and graced the occasion. Shri Kuna Tripathy, Hon’ble Chairman of Odisha Film Development Corporation and a renounced & popular film Director, Shri Anubhav Mohanty– Hon’ble M.P. (Lok Sabha) , Smt Varsha Priyadarshini – a renounced & popular film Artist was present to encourage the devotees towards the culture. A number of senior Govt officers participated in the Rath Yatra and graced the occasion.

The Mandir Management made elaborate arrangement for smooth and hassle free darshan of the Deities and all civic facilities like drinking water, refreshment, ambulance for emergency cases, sprinkling of water on the devotees against heat and humidity in collaboration with many voluntary organisations like AIIMS engineers and Contractors Association, Rashtriya Prabashi Odia Paribar, Odhisha Sewa Sangha, INA Market Traders Association.

Organizations like Pushpawati Singhania Research Institute( PSRI) and Rockland Hospital etc provided free ambulance service and free medical check up camp for the devotees. Special care was taken for woman, children and senior citizens. The security arrangement provided by Delhi Civil Defence in collaboration with Delhi Police was praise worthy.

The Holy Rath Yatra started on Shri Jagannath Marg from the Temple at 3.30 p.m and passed through the 3-km long route, covering Safdarjung Bus Terminal, Vikas Sadan, INA Market, Dilli Haat and returned to the Temple at 6.00 p.m. The Temple and the Rath were beautifully decorated with flowers, lights and textile designs of Pipli (Odisha). The Kirtan and Bhajan started right from the early morning and continued till late in the evening.

A Souvenir to commemorate the occasion was also released to mark the occasion. The entire route of the Yatra looked very festive. The atmosphere was also electrifying and ecstatic.

The Management of the Mandir also celebrates 11 days cultural festivals of Rath Yatra Mahotsav from 05th Jul, 2019 to 15th July 2019 including Nine-day stay of Lord Jagannath in His Aunt’s House (Shri Gundicha Mandir). In the evening of each day of Mahotsav, a cultural function will be held at Subhadra Kala Mandap in which renowned Odissi dancers, students of renowned Gurus of classical dances will perform Other competitions like painting, song (Bhajan) and dance among children and Shreshtha Odiani among ladies will be organised.

The Rath Yatra procession was completed under direct supervision of K.D.Biswal – General Secretary, D.N Sahoo and Nikhil Agarwal – Vice Presidents, Pradyumna Palai and other office bearers who were present were Pradeep Pradhan, Pranati Biswal, Prakash Sarangi, Pravash Samal, Mahendra Barick, Kalpana Bhujabal, Sushant Swain, Premanand Swain, Sandeep Mahapatra, Abhay Palai, Bigneswar Biswal, Pravat Acharya , Akshay Nayak, Gajendra Sahoo, Amrutesh Otta, Saubhagini Sarangi, Chandra Sekhar Thakur and Gyan Ranjan Nayak.
