Bhubaneswar: The 37th Metalliferous Mining Safety Week was concluded with great fanfare at Rail Auditorium yesterday evening at Bhubaneswar. It was held under the aegis of Bhubaneswar Region of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) and was hosted by Utkal Alumina International Ltd. The DGMS of Dhanbad Mr R. Subramanian graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Among others, Mr S Bagchi, DDG & DMS Bhubaneswar and the Chairman of OMMSWCC, Mr Vineel Krishna, IAS the MD of OMC, Mr SK Mishra joined as Guests of Honour.
While speaking on the occasion, Mr Subramainan stressed upon the digitization process to be adopted in the safety measures of the mining companies. He said that Safety Management Plan should be converted to Systematic Management Plan. He appealed all the mining companies to adopt one or two districts as a pilot study for imbibing the spirit of mining safety in all stages of their operation.
In his speech Mr Vineel Krishna said “Odisha has richness of mines and minerals. There are many mines that will be opened and expanded in the state. Mines auction is going on and more exploration process is being conducted here. In such situation, we really need skilled manpower to operate these mines for which we may avoid accidents,”. He believed that utilisation of technologies and training modules may help to minimise human errors in the mining sector.
While speaking on the occasion, Mr S. Bagchi elaborated upon the different safety measures being adopted with the use of modern technology by the different mining companies and applauded the efforts of the company for the same.
In his deliberation Mr S K Mishra hoped that the industries will get skilled manpower owing to the help received from skill development program. “There will be no shortage of skilled manpower in near future,” Mishra said.
Among others, Mr I . Satyanarayana, the Vice Chairman of OMMSWCC, Mr BRK Padhi the Co-Convenor, Mr Mukesh Jha the Secretary of OMMSWCC and other dignitaries of different mining companies were present in the occasion. Prizes were distributed to the different companies for adopting nest practices in the mining safety. At last the one spectacular cultural event was organised which enthralled the entire audience.
