Odia girl Meenarani shines in Mumbai Rugby team

Report by Pratap Pradhan; Bhubaneswar: Odia rugby player Meenarani Sahu was shined in the Magician Foundation India rugby team of Mumbai, the MFI women’s team bagged the runner up title in the Callaghan Cup All India 15-A-Side Div-2 Rugby Tournament, which concluded at Jaipur In Rajasthan on Tuesday.

It was a great pleasure for me as my team bagged the runner up title. In the final match against HaryanaI we fought till the end and the match ended in 5-5 draw, but in the extra time Haryana scored a try and took away the trophy with 10-5 score. I was played in the position of scrum-half, said Meenarani.

Meenarani the second daughter of Kumari Sahu and Ekadasi Sahoo of Balarampur village of Malud. She use to play rugby here at Kalinga Stadium under the guidance of Dhiren Kumar Rout in Bhubaneswar Rugby Club (BRU).

My past experience at BRU helped me to get a place in the Mumbai based team. In my new work place in Mumbai I am getting very less time for practice, but I am spending all my off days at Gymkhana stadium to continue my sporting career, added Meenarani.
