Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology India, TeamLease Skills University, Odisha Govt, collaborate to launch a skill development Program at ITI, Barbil

Bhubaneswar: Sandvik Mining & Rock Technology India, part of Swedish Multinational Sandvik A.B, partners with TeamLease Skills University, Vadodara, and DTET, Odisha to launch a skill development initiative for final year electrical students of ITI Barbil in the Keonjhar district of Odisha.

The project is a part of the CSR initiatives of Sandvik, aimed at providing a certification course to the final year ITI students along with six months on the job training at the customer sites to make them self-sustainable and enhance their chances of employability. A batch of 20 students has been shortlisted based on their Merit and performance thru’ a written test and followed by personal interviews which was conducted at the campus of ITI Barbil. The shortlisted students would undergo rigorous customized training based on a specially designed curriculum covering soft skills, basic hydraulics, electricals, and operation and maintenance of Sandvik crushing and screening plants, thus ensuring the right set of skills and industry connection.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Reghu G, the Director of DTET, (Government of Odisha), who was present for the inauguration, thanked team Sandvik for selecting Odisha for conducting this initiative and selecting students from ITI Barbil.

Mr. Asoktaru Chattopadhyay, Vice President, Sandvik Crushing and Screening Business flagged off this initiative virtually and shared his organization’s commitment to the community and skilling more youth from the state going forward. He also commented that this initiative would not only help provide skilled manpower, which is a dearth scarcity in the space of crushing and screening sector but also help in increasing employability in the state.

Ms. Neeti Sharma, Senior Vice President, Teamlease said “skilling followed by OJT is the best way to train and upskill the community and help them in their career progression”.

We aim to engage with communities around our sphere of operations by leveraging the skills and enthusiasm of our employees and partners best suited to create the desired impact.” He further added, this skill development initiative for the youth of ITI Barbil is aligned with Sandvik Group’s philosophy to set the industry standard and contribute towards giving back to the community.

 

The program is designed on the principle of ‘Learn and Earn’ as the students earn a stipend while they undergo six months of on-the-job training at the Sandvik Customers sites.

 

This will not only improve performance at the workplace but also adds more diversified experience and abilities for students. This value-added course will expose students to industry requirements, best practices, and the latest technologies to make them industry-ready.

 

After completion of the program, trainees will be certified by the Government of Odisha, Sandvik, and TeamLease that will eventually improve their chances of placement in the job market.
