New Delhi: Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu created history today by winning her maiden World Championships gold medal at Basel, Switzerland. With this win, she has become the 1st Indian shuttler to clinch World Championships.
Sindu defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 in the women’s singles final. It was Sindhu’s fifth World Championships medal — joint most for a woman singles player with former Olympics and world champion Zhang Ning of China.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaish Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have congratulated Sindhu for wining the Championships.
In a tweet, the President said, this is a proud moment for the entire country. He said, Sindhu’s magic on the court and perseverance inspire millions of people.
The Vice President said, the entire nation is proud of her stupendous achievement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the newly-crowned world champion.
He said, the passion and dedication with which she’s pursued badminton is inspiring. Her success will inspire generations of players, the prime minister added.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar also lauded Sindhu saying, her determination, grit and commitment reflects women power of India.
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said the country was proud of Sindhu for her unprecedented achievement. In histweet, Rijiju said the Govt will continue to provide best support &facilities to produce champions.
