Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik launched free eye care services for all citizens

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday launched a scheme “Sunetra” that aims at ensuring free eye care services for all citizens in the State.

During an ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikas’ programme at the State Secretariat here, Patnaik said that under the scheme, people would be provided with various eye care services free of cost at all Government-run hospitals, including Community Health Centres (CHCs), Sub-Divisional Hospitals (SDHs) and District Headquarter Hospitals (DHHs) and medical colleges.

The CM said that under the scheme, all cataract patients would be provided with operation facility along with appropriate gasses free of cost. The cataract operations would be conducted at all Government hospitals without any paperwork.

Besides, under the scheme, school students would have the facility to undergo eye checkup in their schools every year. Students detected with visibility issues can avail spectacles at the CHCs free of cost. And those detected with major eye problems would be provided with treatment free of cost, Patnaik added.
