Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurates Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra Award Festival

 

Bhubaneswar (05.09.2017) : The OMC Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra Award Festival started with great enthusiasm and excitement among the art connoisseurs thronging to Rabindra Mandap on 5th September 2017. The objective of organizing this festival is to give Odisha audience an exposure to classical fare of the highest level with aspire to sensitize captive audiences, especially the younger section and students, so that an enthusiasm for the subtle flavours of classicism is planted in them.

The first presentation in the inaugural evening was Ekatatwa. Ekatatwa is one such endevour, where art and artist unite in pursuit of the Supreme Bliss. It is about celebrating the use of the body through all of its movements to reach beyond the plane of mundane, in search of higher existence. Ekatatwa is a common principle of through that strings together three dancers with three choreogrpahers i.e. Daksha Mashruwala, Uma Dogra and Vaibhav Arekar; and three classical dance styles i.e. Odissi, Kathak and Bharatnatyam. The music director of the presentation was Shri Manoj Desai. The dancers-cum-Choreogrpahers was marked by fluid grace, immaculate body movements with amazing precision and charming gestures and postures.

The second presentation of the evening was instrumental Jugalbandi of Flute play by Annada Prasanna Pattanaik and Veena play by Puspa Kashinath. Annada Prasanna Pattanaik (Popularly known as Butto), his experimental flute playing, such as going to higher octave with playing of various Indian Classical ragas appreciated by the audiences. Puspa Kashinath a renowned Veena player, her handling of Veena was deft and hearteningly forceful. They are accompanied in Tabla by Udayaraj Karpur.

The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Shri Naveen Patnaik, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Odisha; Shri Ashok Chandra Panda, Hon’ble Minister, Tourism & Culture; Shri Ashok Kumar Tripathy, Former Member, Board of Revenue; Shri Sanjeev Chopra, Principal Secretary, Industries and Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra, Director, Srjan. The programme was compered by Dr. Srinivas Ghatuari.
