Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik dedicate the ₹2,000 crore Gopalpur Port to the nation

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik dedicated Gopalpur Port to the nation on 28 February 2019.

In a ceremony at Gopalpur Port, the CM Mr Patnaik said, “Gopalpur Port will be a strategic shift in cargo movement on the east coast of India. Development of this port will provide significant economic benefits to Ganjam District and will create direct and indirect employment for over 6,500 people.”

“Gopalpur port will play a crucial role in economic development of Odisha, especially the southern districts of the state,” added Mr Patnaik.

The dedication function took place in the presence of Honorable Minister Commerce and Transport Dr. NrusinghaCharanSahu, MLA Gopalpur Dr. PradeepPanigraphi and MLA Chattrapur Dr. PriyanshuPradhan.

“Gopalpur Port is expandingits capacity to 20 MT all-weatheroperations in this phase with an overall vision of 55MT by 2025.Shapoorji Pallonji Groups’ Ports business will now operate on both sides of the Indian coast providing strategic logistical advantages to its customers” Shapoorji Pallonji Port’s Managing Director Amit Saboo said.

In 2017, Shapoorji Pallonji Group became majority shareholder in Gopalpur Ports and undertook the Rs 2,000 crore expansion program. Gopalpur Ports (Ganjam District) is strategically located between Paradip and Vishakapatanam Ports positioning Gopalpur Ports uniquely for imports as well as coastal transportation of cargo on the East coast of India.
“The current expansion entails a total investment of Rs. 2,000 Crores and will contribute significantly towards the economic development of Orissa and Ganjam District in particular” said Captain Sandeep Agarwal CEO of Gopalpur Ports.
