Angul:Supporting the ‘Safety Buddies’ Initiative by Directorate of Factories & Boilers, Odisha, Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) organised safety awareness programme at Ganesh Sponge Private Limited, Angul under the Guidance of Asst. Director of Factories & Boiler, Angul Mr. Umakant Samantray.
Safety Experts from JSPL Mr. Ravi Kant Somani (Corporate Head -Occupational Health & Safety), Mr. Navin Gautam (GM – Safety) and Mr. David Samantray (AGM – Fire & Safety) visited the local Factory and shared different methods and techniques of industrial safety. Workers, officers and managers of Ganesh Sponge participated in the programme.
Mr. Ravi Kant Somani shared his vast experience among the employees of Ganesh Sponge and explained about various safety practices. Mr. Samantray explained section wise hazards and risks involved in sponge iron manufacturing and also shared control measure to be implemented for preventing such accidents.
Mr. Ashok Kumar Singh (Whole Time Director) of Ganesh Sponge thanked the Safety Buddies Team for conducting such a useful program. He also promised to implement the learning with an immediate effect.
Safety Buddies initiative is a part of the ‘Strategy and Road Map for reduction of Industrial Accidents in the State’, implemented by Directorate of Factories and Boilers, Odisha. Under this programme, which is facilitated by Zonal Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers, those factories employing 500 or more workers and having reasonably good safety infrastructures would adopt a group of small factories in the vicinity and play the role of Safety Buddies. The big factories would be mentoring the small factories by involving them in training programs, mock drills and first aid programs.
Taking this initiative of Government of Odisha forward, JSPL’s Angul unit has been maintaining safety awareness in smaller factories in local areas. In the September, JSPL also organised similar safety awareness program at M/S Amritesh Industries Pvt. Limited (AIPL) under the Guidance of Asst. Director of Factories & Boiler, Angul.
