Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had a meeting with Union Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh and discussed development of steel sector in the state. He pressed for speedy upgradation of the Biju Patnaik Steel Institute at Puri into a National institution like IITs.
Highlights of discussion:
• Central Cabinet in 2004 had decided to convert it into a Autonomous National institute & start BTech, MTech & PhD courses
• Establishment of Steel hub in Kalinga Nagar
• Resumption of limestone & dolomite excavation from the 230 hectare leased land at Sundargarh by SAIL & setting up of Cement factory
• Accelerated handover of five hectare land at Rourkela Steel Plant Town area to Housing and Urban development Department for establishing sewage plant.
The Union Minister assured CM of considering the issues and taking action on them.
