Not only does the domestic macroeconomic structure and environment need to be strengthened but elements of the micro-economy including the respective economic sectors and local corporations also need to be made more resilient. In order to enhance national long-term competitiveness, the Government will continue to promote the transition to higher value-added activities in many economic sectors, mainly being, manufacturing and services. New sources of growth in these sectors will be identified and promoted to generate additional income and to develop new sources of economic wealth. The manifestation and aspiration of Vision 2020 set the framework for which development is to be steered. Many of the economic, social and environmental challenges that we are facing have a strong urban dimension. Rapid population growth, an aging population, shrinking and growing cities, climate change, biodiversity loss, disaster risks, migration, unemployment, and social exclusion are some of the major problems affecting citizens living in the urban environment. Hence, the UMG Summit will provide a platform for stimulating interaction between the veterans of the Urban Management world and the students on the theme “Transformative Urban Governance in the Developing World and the New Urban Agenda” The speakers for the event include:
