Report by Kishor Dash; Bhubneswar: The much awaited Rs.172 crore mega under construction Gurupriya bridge over river Janbai, said to be the dream project of the Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik nearing the deadline for its completion.The construction work of 910 meter length Gurupriya bridge and 1200 meter approach road on the Papermetla side of the bridge being executed by the Kolkotta based Royal Infraconstru Limited has moved into full steam. Men and machine are working continuously at both ends of the mega bridge under the surveillance of the Border Security Force (BSF) Personnels deployed at the both the sides of the bridge.
The bridge at Gurupriya would provide connectivity to the cut-off area housing 25,000 tribal people living in 151 villages once it is completed. The foundation stone for the bridge was laid way back in 1982 by the then chief minister JB Patnaik and again by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in 2000.
We are working 24×7 on the project which will be completed within the stipulated time, said the Royal Infraconstru Limited Project Manager Niranjan Kumar . Divulging the details of the progress made so far, Kumar said of the total 23 numbers of piers on which the bridge will rest, the erection of 18 piers have already been completed. Similarly, the construction of 131 piles of the total 136 numbers have also been completed. Of the total 48 PSC girders, the construction of 28 girders have already been completed.
The pile cap arrangement work from P12 to P16 situated in the deep water zone is going at full pace and likely to be completed by May 2017, Kumar said. Of the 22 deck slabs, six have already been casted, he added. With regard to the erection of total 15 steel girders , nine have already been fabricated at Raipur in Chhatisgarh and under trial erection process there. The steel girders will reach at the site by May 15 for erection , Works Department officials here said to this portal.
Better known as the lifeline of the cut off region, the ambitious Gurupiya bridge once completed will boost the economy of the area thereby ending the decade long wait by the inhabitants of the cut off region, said District Collector K. Sudarshan Chakravarthy who is monitoring the progress of the project. The bridge is ‘no more an unrealistic dream,’ Chakravarthy added.
The foundation stone for the bridge at Gurupriya was laid way back in 1982 by the then chief minister JB Patnaik and again by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in 2000.
