Vedanta’s Nandghar and Shiksha Sambal programme to boost skill development for women and education for children in Kalahandi

 

Lanjigarh: Vedanta Limited Lanjigarh (VLL) performed the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of their flagship CSR project ‘Nandghar’ at Harekrushnapur village near Lanjigarh, Kalahandi with an aim to provide primary education to children and skill development to women. Mr. Rakesh Mohan, COO, and Ms. Harmeet Sehra, Chief Community Development Officer represented Vedanta at the ceremony. The Bhoomi Puja took place in the presence of Village Leader Shri Harekrushna Joshi, Ms. Jyotsana Rani Mishra – ICDS Supervisor, along with several Anganwadi and Child Care Centre workers.Various youth leaders and elders of Harekrushnapur villagers and other Vedanta employees graced the occasion.

During the event, Shri Harekrushna Joshi appreciated Vedanta’s community initiatives in Lanjigarh and said that the modern Anganwadis will help the communities immensely. Notably, the company has also laid the foundation stones for Nandghars in Kendubadi, Basantapada, Kansari villages and the NVN R&R Colony. Furthermore, the company is planning to expand its footprint by constructing 25 new Nandghars in the coming year.

Simultaneously, the company has organized a felicitation ceremony for 15 student achievers of 2018 board exams at SSD High School, Ashramapada in association with FIDR. Under the company’s ‘ShikshaSambal’ programme,VLL has provided pre-matric coaching support to class 10th standardstudents of five schools in Lanjigarh.

Present at the occasion were Chief Guest Ms. Harmeet Sehra, Chief Community Development Officer, Mr Ravindra Kumar Dhing, Commercial Department, headmasters and teachers of local schools, education officers, leaders, students, parents and Vedanta employees. Presently, Shiksha Sambal is providing coaching to students of 8th, 9th & 10th standards in 7 govt. schools of Lanjigarh block. It also focuses on children’s extracurricular activity beyond academics.
