Jharsuguda : Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda concluded its week-long energy conservation campaign culminating in the celebration of 28th National Energy Conservation Day. The closing ceremony commemorated the efforts and achievements of the company in energy management and conservation, with special focus on the week-long observance of the occasion. Mr. C N Singh, CEO – Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda, Mr. GG Pal, Head – Smelter II, Mr. Clint McLachlan, Head – Smelter I, and Mr. Helio Truci – Head – R&D graced the ceremony with their presence.
Kick-started on 8th December 2019, the campaign witnessed a plethora of activities & initiatives like carpooling, quiz, drawing competition, extempore and model making competition, involving employees, students, members of the community and partner companies. The winners of various activities and events were felicitated at the closing ceremony.
Talking about the company’s efforts towards energy conservation, Mr. C N Singh, CEO – Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda, said, “As a responsible unit, Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda and its employees are conscious of and sensitive to the need for energy conservation. At Vedanta, we continuously work on streamlining our processes, adopting new technology and innovating our methods to reduce specific energy consumption and carbon footprint.”
Employees of Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda conducted awareness sessions on various aspects of energy conservation for more than 500 students from DAV School, Saint Mary High school, Mangala bazar Boys High School and Municipal High School, Purna Basti. Our service providers such as Siemens, Vaaman, LIPL, PAPL, TPS Infrastructure Ltd. and Sterling, showcased their technical competency and expertise at the energy conservation model making competition. A painting competition was also organized which attracted more than 150 students from Vedanta Township. As a part of the campaign, a mass plantation drive was also conducted by employees in which more than 200 saplings were planted at different locations on the company premises.
Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda’s dedicated and persistent efforts in energy conservation have been appreciated at national and global forums like CEM, CII, SEEM, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Ministry of Power. The company has been identified as a model industry by BEE for significant contributions in developing energy efficiency guidelines for industries in collaboration with BEE and Japan. Till date, more than 70 projects have been implemented by the company to reduce energy consumption. Going forward, the company is working on reducing specific energy consumption and the carbon footprint by adopting new technology and projects driven by employees.
