Lanjigarh: Furthering its aim to bring better childcare and education young ones and empower women with skill development in and around its plant periphery, Vedanta LtdLanjigarh has taken up the unique initiative to construct two more Nandghars atBasantpada and Kansari villages in Lanjigarh block. Nandghar which is an extension of the existing Anganwadi initiative institutionalized as a service delivery unit established under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) by the Government of India will help strengthen and provide better Early Childhood Care and Education Centre facilities in rural areas.
Ground breaking ceremony was held today in the two villages with much fanfare and the villagers across age groups including women folk and children participated in the traditional Bhoomi Puja. Present during the occasion were Senior officials of Vedanta Lanjigarh including Mr Sanjeev Kumar, Director External Affairs &Admin, Mr Sanjay Agarwal, HeadGrowth Projects, and Ms Harmeet Sehra, Chief Community Development Officer along withJyotsana Rani Mishra, ICDS Supervisor, TulsiNaik, ZillaParishadVice Chairman, Lanjigarh Block, Mangli Majhi, SarpanchBasantpada, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, village ward members,CHC doctors and village School teachers.
TulsiNaik, ZillaParishad Vice Chairman, Lanjigarh Block, praised Vedanta’s aim to empower the community through such initiatives and appreciated that both the community and the company working together will bring prosperity for everyone. She further stressed on the benefits of having Nandghar in the village.
The Nandghar will use state-of-the-art construction technology and has added benefits of round-the-clock electricity through solar panels, e-learning in a stimulating environment, clean drinking water through RO purifiers and primary healthcare through mobile medical units. It will run as children’s education and health centre in the morning and train women in vocational skills in the second half.In one of its kind partnership with the Union Ministry for Women and Child Development, the group will be rolling out in a phased manner 4,000 such model Anganwadis across the country.
