Lanjigarh: Vedanta’s Lanjigarh alumina refinery is conducting awareness and sensitization programs in the community on account of the COVID-19 outbreak. The team has reached out to over 14 villages, with the aim to connect with the entire region in raising awareness on the virus.
Mr. Rakesh Mohan, Chief Operating Officer, Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh unit has urged the team to work dedicatedly on raising awareness on the virus, adding: “In these dire circumstances, Vedanta is taking a proactive step to raise awareness on preventive measures against Corona Virus. Our aim is to ensure that the communities are aware of the outbreak and take optimal measures to prevent contracting it. I urge the community to stand strong at these times and practice basic hygiene, sanitation and preventive methods. We are sensitising our employees and business partners within the plant as well.”
The Community Health Awareness and Mobile Health Unit teams of Vedanta Hospital, Lanjigarh have launched Corona infection prevention & control program in the neighbouring communities. The programs share measures for one’s protection with pertinent information from the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials shared in the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Odisha Govt. websites. Additionally, informative banners and communiques have been placed in strategic locations in the villages and panchayat offices. The importance of social distancing, personal hygiene, intake of a healthy and balanced diet, basic sanitation practices in households were also emphasised in the programs. These programs will be regularly conducted in the community, informing them of the transmission and prevention of the virus.
It may be mentioned that under the ‘Aarogya’ program at Lanjigarh, the alumina refinery has enabled transformation in the areas of health and hygiene. The initiatives include community health awareness programmes as means to spread awareness and sensitize on preventive measures against diseases.
