Bhubneswar: The Government of India has initiated various financial inclusion and social security schemes for benefit of poor and backward class people, said Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan at a Mudra promotion camp at the Janata Maidan here on Saturday organised by the Union Ministry of Finance, the Odisha Government and the State-Level Bankers’ Committee.
Pradhan said Mudra, Standup India, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana (PMJJY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY) ) and Digital payments have been initiated to make transactions transparent and linking of accounts with Aadhaar for reaching of monetary benefits directly to the people without any diversion of funds by intermediaries. In the last three years, 30 crore poor people have opened bank accounts. In Narendra Modi’s tenure, nobody can prosper at the expense of poor people.
He urged the bankers to disburse 65 per cent of the deposits as loans to people, particularly women and poor, and urged them to provide necessary finance at affordable rates of interest for encouraging self-employment and adding to the GDP of the economy.
State Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera stressed the need for more funds from the financial sector to the poor people and elaborated on how the State Government is also coming out with different schemes in alignment with the Central schemes for development of the needy people.
Puri BJD MP Pinaki Misra praised Union Minister Pradhan, saying he is a very hardworking and fortunate Minister. After he took over charge, the Petroleum Ministry has become very active.
State Finance Secretary TK Pandey delivered the welcome address. Khordha District Collector NK Mishra proposed a vote of thanks. SLBC Chairman Charan Singh spoke about how banks are working in implementing various Central and State Government schemes.
