The University Grants Commission (UGC) has taken a major decision to make the youth more employable. UGC has decided to make internships compulsory in degrees.
The internship will be in physical, digital, and hybrid modes. It can be implemented from the current academic year. This internship will be for 60 to 120 hours after two years i.e. after the fourth semester. It will cover the student’s work, skills, and research work. Internship students will receive 2 to 4 credits. One credit is earned for 30 hours of work or research.
Similarly, four-year undergraduate program students have to do an internship after the eighth semester i.e. in the last six months of the fourth year. UGC Dean Professor M. Jagdish Kumar said that it has been included in the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Under Graduate Program.
Infrastructure will be established for internships. Portals will be created in all colleges and universities. Experts, agencies, business associations, mentors, and professors will register and share their projects on this portal. Students can select mentors and projects from here. A Nodal Officer has to be appointed for the internship program. Internship facilities will be made available to students by contacting local institutions and various sectors. Group internships will also be arranged. Students will have the option to complete the internship during the summer and winter breaks.
Students can do internships in government and private institutions, educational institutions, hospitals, local groups, NGOs, Business houses, skill centers, and various fields related to Agriculture.
