Two SOG jawans martyred in a gun battle with Maoists

Bhubaneswar: Two Special Operations Group (SOG) jawans died in a gun battle with Maoists in a forest near Sirki village on the Kalahandi-Kandhamal border on Wednesday.The martyrs were identified as Sudhir Kumar Tudu (28) of Mayurbhanj district and Debasis Sethy (27) of Angul district.

Five Maoists were also slain in the encounter. Initially, four bodies of the Red rebels were recovered from the spot. During the combing operation following the encounter, the security personnel recovered the body of another Maoist. On the basis of reliable intelligence input, an operation was launched on Kalahandi-Kandhamal border on September 8. Two teams of SOG and Disitrict Voluntary Force (DVF) carried out the operation.

Following heavy firing from the ultras, a team of SOG and DVF resorted to retaliatory fire, said the Odisha police.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik deeply condoled martyrdom oftwo SOG jawans. Patnaik took to Twitter and said Odisha would remember sacrifice of its brave sons.
