Two Maoists gunned down after a firefight with Odisha police

Bhubaneswar: Two Maoists, including a woman, were gunned down after a firefight with the police near Salepali village under the Paikamal police station of Bargarh district on Tuesday night. This was informed by the Northern Range IG Susanth Nath.

Police said intelligence inputs regarding movement of the Red rebels near Salepali village had been received. Basing on the inputs, Paikamal police station IIC Prakash Karna along with four constables proceeded to the village Salepali to verify the information. While they were approaching the village, a group of armed uniformed Maoist cadres spotted them from a distance and opened fire.=

The police party also retaliated but retreated from the spot as they were outnumbered. Later, reinforcements were rushed to the spot. A combing operation was immediately launched in the area with the help of a CRPF team stationed at the Paikmal PS.

In the combing operation, two dead bodies of Maoist cadres in olive-green uniform, including of a woman, were recovered. A Self Loading Rifle (SLR), a .303 rifle and more than 82 rounds of live ammunitions were recovered from the encounter site.
