Report by Nishapati Nayak; Sunabeda: A high voltage trade union election is now underway in the engine and sukhoi-30 complex of public sector HAL, here, to choose the recognized union of the plant.
The electioneering is conducted through display of huge banners and posters, door to door canvassing and roadside public meetings in the HAL township and its peripheral areas.
Some of the contesting unions are even throwing up huge feasts for their supporters and distributing fabulous gifts to woo the workers in their favour. It is estimated that the trade unions, vying for this recognisation, have a budget of more than lakhs each though unlike general elections there is no authority to keep a tab on the cost.
It may be noted, every two year, polls are conducted among the HAL workers to choose the recognized union to negotiate with the management on various worker related issues.
As per the trend now, there was a triangular contest among the unions affiliated to HAEA,BAMS and BAEU in both the plants.
There are three trade unions in the race this time in both Engine and Sukhoi-30 plants. The polls conducted on May 24. A total number of voters as per voter list was 2615 , total number of votes casted is 2522, votes casted in favour of Biju Aeronautics employees Union(BAEU) is 1625, Hindustan Aeronautics Employees Association is 151, Hindustan Aeronautics Mazdoor Sangh is 737 and invalid was 09.In last poll, the Hinustan aeronautics mazdoor sangh (HAMS) was in power.
The result of the secret ballot election conducted on dated 24. 05 .16 in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited engine division sunabeda Koraput Odisha to verify the membership of union operation were representative of union Biju Aeronautics employees Union, representative of Hindustan Aeronautics Employees Association, representative of the Hindustan Aeronautics Mazdoor Sangh, representative of the management of HAL engine division sunabeda Koraput, Dr T K Panda observer and RLC(C), Bhubaneswar, Mr N Tripathy, returning officer and Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner, Central, Bhubaneswar.
Later a huge procession inside township of HAL with slogans,banners,posters, Biju Aeronautics employees Union(BAEU) and all employees were celebrating their grand success.It was headed by their president Mr.siba Prasad sabat , Mr.Nihar Ranjan Nanda(G.S)and all executive body members supported to make it successful.
