Talcher: Coal miners working during the night shift at Bharatpur open cast mine in Talcher Coalfields of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) came under a dump slide due to a strata failure.
The accident occurred between 2300-2330 hrs on Tuesday when a portion of earth broke loose trapping 13 workers and machinery at work.
The fellow miners and rescue teams immediately swung into action rescued and nine workers, who were shifted to company’s Central Hospital at Talcher for treatment of minor injuries.
However, rescue operation is underway to recover the bodies of four missing workers. The Director (Technical/Operations) and the Director (Personnel) of MCL have rushed to Talcher to oversee the rescue operations.
