Steps taken by the government to promote Skill Development

New Delhi : During last 05 years, following five (05) Skill Universities have been established:-

In the year 2020-21, 139 universities were approved by UGC to offer skill-based programmes. UGC has also issued Guidelines for Apprenticeship/Internship embedded Degree Progrmame and all the universities have been requested to introduce such degree program.

Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) are implementing “Degree Apprenticeship” programme in Retail, Logistics and Media. So far 47 institutions are imparting Degree Apprenticeship.

The year-wise number of institutions approved by UGC, to offer skill-based programmes are as under :
