Bhubaneswar: Mr. S.S. Mohanty, Vice-Chairman & MD, NINL, has been honoured with the Platinum Award of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) for his significant contribution in metal and steel industries. IIM Platinum award is presented to individuals having outstanding lifetime contribution to the metallurgical profession.
With nearly four decades of work experience in steel sector, Mr. Mohanty held important portfolios in SAIL like Director (Technical), MD, Bokaro Steel Plant, etc. He was the founder Director of the Steel Research Technology Mission of India (SRTMI) and held portfolios like Chairman–AIST, India Chapter; Chairman–S&T Mining; Director–International Coal Ventures Private Limited (ICVL).
Mr. Mohanty, who received the award in a glittering ceremony held in Kolkata on the National Metallurgist Day this month, gives credit of this award to the teams he worked with in SAIL and now in NINL.
With this, Mr. Mohanty joins the elite club of metallurgists like Mr. B. Muthuraman, Ex-Vice-Chairman, Tata Steel, Dr Sanak Mishra, Ex-MD, Rourkela Steel Plant and Mr. H. M. Nerurkar, Ex-MD Tata Steel who were earlier awarded with the coveted award.
Under Mr. Mohanty’s leadership, NNIL is in turnaround mode with achieving several milestones and the loss making integrated steel unit is expected to make positive bottom line in the next fiscal.
