Bhubaneswar: The Orion sports event kicked off with a mega Inaugural Ceremony on 16th January’2019 at the home grounds of Sri Sri University. The ceremony aimed at declaring the sports event of Orion 2019 open. The sports events include a number of inter-university sports competitions like, Basketball, Volleyball, Table tennis, Cricket, Futsal etc. The ceremony’s Chief Guest was Shri Chandra Sarathi Behera, Minister Sports and Youth Services, Electronics & IT, Govt. of Odisha. Other guests present on the dais were (Prof.) Dr. Nand Lal, Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Narendra Lamba, Director of Operations, Commodore Ghanshyam Ojha, Executive Registrar, and Captain Chandra Shekhar Panda, Director of Student Affairs, Sri Sri University.
The Sports Inaugural Ceremony started off by instilling positivity and optimism into the environment through a divine Vedic chanting by the Veda Boys of Sri Sri University. After which, Captain Chandra Shekhar Panda, Director of Student Affairs, Sri Sri University, introduced Orion’s sports events and welcomed the eminent guest, participating players and the audience with a welcoming speech.
The Indian flag as well as the university’s flag was then hoisted by the guests which was then followed by a lighting of the torch and a torch run by nationally and internationally acclaimed university students in the field of sports.
Then, Shri Chandra Sarathi Behera, Hon’ble Minister Sports and Youth Services, Govt. of Odisha, inspired and motivated the audience and the participants with his words of wisdom and expertise. He asked the participants of various competitions to maintain a healthy competition and put their best foot forward during the upcoming events.
Then, Dr. Nand Lal, Vice Chancellor, Sri Sri University, then took over the dais and he threw light on the importance of sports and how the honour of the country is related to the glory of sports. Narendra Lamba, Director of Operations, Sri Sri University, said that it is never about the age but the spirit with which we participate in sports. The sign of youth is having sportsmanship.
After that the well-trained, internationally acclaimed students of Sri Sri University gave an awestruck Martial Arts performance. After which, the chief guest of the event declared the sports event open. Then, Commodore Ghanshyam Ojha, Executive Registrar, Sri Sri University, offered a vote of thanks to the guests, speakers, media persons, academic and non-academic staff of the university and wished good luck to the Orion team for the forthcoming events.
Along with sports there are a plethora of cultural and academic events lined up to celebrate the cultures from the East and innovations from the West which will be held from 18th January to 20th January’ 2019. The main stage events start everyday at 6pm onwards. The program includes, Spandan (The Dance competition), Avalon (War of DJs), Reverb (Band Competition), and Celestia (The Fashion Show). Sri Sri University welcomes all to be a part of this grandeur event and feel the essence of different cultures, ideologies and opinions.
