There shall be no compromise on quality front: Mr A K Jha, CMD, MCL

Sambalpur: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), highest coal supplying subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has affirmed its resolve to ensure supply of quality dry fuel to its consumers, particularly thermal power plants across the country.

Mr A K Jha, Chairman & Managing Director, MCL, who chaired the General Managers Coordination Meeting yesterday said, ‘’there shall be no compromise on quality front and the consumers must get desired quality of coal’’.
A mechanism of monthly consumer meet is being introduced in the company to take the feedbacks from consumers, particularly small medium and scale industries to ensure quality supply from MCL mines. ‘’A Consumer Meet will be organised on 3rd Wednesday of every month,’’ Mr Jha said.

MCL, which has been winning consecutively the Coal India Award for Quality, is further strengthening its Quality Control Department at area level, which is headed by a General Manager (QC) at company headquarters here.
To ensure quality of coal being supplied to the consumers, MCL has three NABL Accredited coal analysis laboratories in its fields while two other laboratories are in the process of getting NABL certification.

First in the country to introduce environment-friendly Surface Miners in coal mining way back in 1999, MCL is going to add five more surface miners to its fleet of 38 surface miners deployed in its 16 open cast mines of the company spread over in Angul, Jharsuguda and Sundergarh districts of Odisha.

Besides surface miners, which have eliminated drilling and blasting in coal extraction, MCL has also introduced Ripper Dozers in its open cast mines to do way with drilling and blasting for over burden removal and reduce impact on environment .

The company is constructing four coal washeries which are expected to be operational by 2020, enabling MCL supply coal of less than 34 per cent ash content to power plants within 500 to 1000 kms.

Ten SILOs are at different stage of construction at MCL’s coalfields to ensure swift and environment-friendly supply of coal to the consumers.
MCL had supplied record 143 million tonne coal to its consumers while 139.2 million tonne coal was produced, with surface miners contributing 92.48 per cent to the total, during the last financial year ended March 31, 2017.
