Senior Odisha BJP leader Damodar Rout quits party

Bhubaneswar: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Damodar Rout has reportedly resigned from the primary membership of the party on Wednesday.

The senior leader sent his resignation to BJP state president Basant Panda today.

Rout in his letter to the BJP state president has expressed his resentment and alleged negligence by the party towards him.

Dama Rout’s son Sambit Rout says it was a wrong decision by his father to join BJP. “When BJP was in difficult situation they called my father. I had tried to stop him but he didn’t listen,” says Rout. Responding to Damodar Rout’s resignation from BJP, BJD leader Debi Mishra says,”He is a respected leader and a veteran politician and it was his personal decision to resign from the national party. He is a staunch follower of Biju Patnaik.”

Responding to senior leader Damodar Rout’s allegation of being ignored by BJP, party’s State president Basant Panda says, “Everyone is equal in our party, nobody was ignored. Everybody including Prime Minister is a leader as well as party worker.”
