The second day of the Deomali Jatiya Natya Mahotsav at Koraput organized by Nandanik witnessed two beautiful feministic plays.
The first play, ‘Krishna’ was a multi lingual play by Kolkata based Institute of Factual Theatre Arts. The play used Sanskrit, Hindi & Bangla and was based on a story from Mahabharata centered around the character of Draupadi. It was directed by Debasish Dutta and enacted by Debjani Mukherjee and child artist Ahiri Dutta.
The second play of the evening was ‘Aparajita’, a Bangla play by Panihati Sayudh which showcased solo performance by Bengal’s noted theatre actress Nancy and is directed by Subrata Sen Gupta. The play by Nitish Sen was earlier made famous by the legendary Bengali actress Tripti Mitra. The play is about the journey and turmoils in the life of a woman and how she faces the society.
A packed audience enjoyed both the plays which featured minimalist settings and thrived mainly on the superb acting of the artists.
The Deomali Jatiya Natya Mahotsav 2017 is the only national level theatre festival in South Odisha started by Nandanik in 2017. This year the festival showcases 7 plays from 3 states in 5 different languages.
