Ruling BJD of Odisha demanded resignation of Haryana CM over violence after conviction of Dera chief

Bhubaneswar: The BJD on Saturday demanded resignation of Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar, blaming him for the mayhem following the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh by a CBI court at Panchkula on Friday. Party spokesperson Pratap Keshari Deb said, “Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar is fully responsible for the violence and must step down.
“The Haryana CM should take moral responsibility and step down in view of the 30 deaths in the violence,” Deb added.
In reaction, BJP State general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said the tragic incident of Dera violence should not be politicised.
However, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that he was pained by the loss of lives in the violence in Haryana and appealed for peace.
“Pained by loss of lives in violence in Haryana. I condemn the unlawful acts in strongest possible terms and appeal for restoration of peace,” Patnaik said in a tweet.
