New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at countries “sponsoring, aiding and funding” terrorism and told top leaders at the SCO Summit that such states must be held accountable. Addressing the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit PM Modi also called for a global conference to combat the scourge of terrorism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clear message to Pakistan at the19th SCO summit. And it wasn’t just words. No pleasantries were exchanged between PM Modi and Pak Prime Minister Imran Khan throughout the summit although they were in the same room at least 5 times. PM Modi’s body language perhaps said more than his words.
Addressing the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit PM Modi highlighted the spirit and ideals of the SCO to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terror. He called on the SCO members to cooperate under the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure against terrorism.
Pakistan not acting against terrorism emanating from its soil also came up during PM Modi’s bilateral with President Xi Jinping on Thursday.
The significance of this meeting wasn’t lost on anyone…..coming a month after China lifted its technical hold on the proposal to blacklist Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist…..allowing a UN Security Council committee to list Massod Azhar as a global terrorist.
Sri Lanka was among Prime Minister Modi’s first ports of call after he took office for the second time. It was clearly a visit in solidarity Prime Minister Modi is the first international leader to visit the teardrop island nation after the deadly Easter Sunday attacks.
India has also been consistant with its demand to everyone to stop discriminating between good & bad terrorism.
India-Pakistan ties have gone into the silent zone since 2016 Pathankot air base attack and this no talks with terror resolve was further cemented after the Pulwama attack on CRPF jawans which left 40 families bereft & a nation in grief.
