New Delhi: The third meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog will be held under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017,at RashtrapatiB havan. Members of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog, including Chief Ministers of the States, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, Full time Members of NITI Aayog, ex-officio Members of NITI Aayog and Special Invitees will be present at the meeting. During the meeting, action taken on decisions of the earlier two Meetings of the Governing Council held on February 8th, 2015 and July 15th, 2015 respectively will be discussed in detail.
NITI Aayog’s Vice Chairman, Dr. Arvind Panagariya, will present a roadmap for the rapid transformation of India by outlining key aspects of the 15- year Vision document, comprising the seven-year Strategy document and the three-year Action plan. A presentation on the roadmap of doubling farmers’ income will be made by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Another highlight will be a presentation on Goods and Services Tax (GST)..
The first meeting of the Governing Council on February 8, 2015, led to the Prime Minister laying down the key mandates of NITI Aayog, such as fostering cooperative federalism by addressing national issues through mutual cooperation between the Centre and States, and monitoring important schemes and programs of the Government of India. It was also decided that NITI Aayog will act as the “Think Tank” of the Government and also as a bridge between the Centre and States. Major achievements of the first meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog were the formation of three sub-groups of Chief Ministers and two task forces, one on elimination of Poverty in India and other on Agriculture Development .
The second Meeting of the Governing Council on July 15, 2015, outlined the substantial progress made by the three Sub-Groups of Chief Ministers and the two Task Forces. The Prime Minister also highlighted that State Governments are the foundation of India’s developmental process and therefore their views must be incorporated in the policy making process..
