Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wished people of Odisha on the State’s 83rd foundation day on Sunday.
Modi took to micro-blogging site Twitter to convey his greetings. “Best wishes to my sisters and brothers of Odisha on Utkala Dibasa.,” he tweeted.
CM Naveen Patnaik too extended his greetings in Odia on Twitter. Taking Twitter route, the Chief Minister also paid rich tribute to the late leaders who sacrificed their lives for formation of separate state of Odisha on Apri 1, 1936.

Utkal Divas is celebrated on April 1 when the sacrifices of great sons of the soil for formation of Odisha are recalled. Odisha was the first State to be formed on linguistic basis in 1936.
Social reformers like Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das, Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, Maharaja Shri Ramachandra Bhanjadeo, Maharaja Shri Krushna Chandra Gajapati, Raja Baikunthanath Dey, Fakir Mohan Senapati, Gangadhar Meher and Gourishankar Ray played pivotal roles in the fight for the political identity of Odisha.
