• Unique Program to Create Awareness against Child Marriage
• Will help in reducing maternal mortality rate in peripheral villages
Bhubaneswar : Moving forward with its corporate mission to bring empowerment in the lives of the villagers living in peripheral areas, Aditya Birla Group Company Utkal Alumina International Limited (UAIL) along with the District Social Welfare department of Rayagada launched a very unique program called, “Papa Ki Pari” a sensitization program to highlight awful impact of girl child marriage in society, and eradicate such social stigma from the surrounding villages under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative on 27th December 2019. A one day training program for adolescent girls was organized at the CSR office of the company to commemorate the unveiling of this novel initiative in which more than 100 girls from 10 villages participated.
This is a 2 years project consisting of various awareness activities, like, group meetings, seminars, audio-visual presentations, trainings etc. among the villagers to sensitize them in dealing with this evil practice. Subsequent to the meetings and consultation with villagers, this one day training program of adolescents girls from nearby 10 villages, namely, Bilamal, Makapadar, Nuapada, RR Colony I, RR Colony II, Bagirijholla, Dwimundi, Kucheipadar, D Koral & G.Koral with the participation of more than 100 girls was organized.
While speaking in this occasion as the Chief Guest, Mr.Mazhar Beig – Joint President, UAIL said, “Education should reach in every household so as to eradicate such menace form our society.Hence our mission is to bring down such social issues by providing better education facility in locality.”
With his motivational words, Mr. N. Nagesh Unit Head & President, UAIL appreciated this distinct social awareness program of CSR department, and stressed upon proactive initiatives to provide proper education and health facility to women and girls child.
The inaugural meeting of the training program was graced by the District Govt. officers, like District Social Welfare Officer, Ratneswar Sahu, District Consultant, Child Marriage Prohibition & Program and Ms. Saudamini Patra ,Child Development Project Officer, Kashipur Block. Ms. Lopamudra Priyadarshini GM – Community Relations & Sustainability, UAIL also shared her view against the girl child marriage on this occasion.
