Bhubaneswar: The scientific tests for ODISHA TALENT ADOPTION PROGRAM (OTAP) were carried out in the Aditya Birla Public School, Bhubaneswar in which 124 students participated. OTAP is conducted to find out the shooting talents amongst the children who will be trained professionally at the Birla Gagan Narang High Performance Centre. This Centre is set up by the Aditya Birla Group in the city in collaboration with the Gagan Narang Sports Promotion Foundation and the Department of Sports and Youth Services, Govt. of Odisha. In the selection camp, Mr Abhilash Mallick from Aditya Birla Group and Mr Prashant Jain from Gagan Narang Foundation and the Principal of ABPS Bhubaneswar Dr. Nirupama Kapoor were present.
Various Meta cognitive and physical tests were being conducted to identify naturally talented children for the sport of shooting in the age group of 11-14. The tests include, BMI, 3D coordination, muscle strength, finger dexterity, finger tapping, reaction time, adaptive matrices test, DTKI – reactive stress tolerance and two hand coordination.
A total of 4000 children from various schools of Bhubaneswar will undergo Talent Identification test under OTAP and total of 200 children will be selected, who will undergo the fully funded training under the program, at the new built 10M Shooting Range at Kalinga Stadium, to prepare for State & National Competitions in 2020.
The ideology of this program is to “CATCH’EM YOUNG’ in which young and talented students are transformed into professional athletes in the Olympic sport of shooting. The OTAP for schools in Bhubaneswar offers the students of various esteemed institutions the benefits of physical as well as mental fitness through the sport of shooting. The aim is to exclusively provide the state-of-the-art facilities to all the talented shooters from the schools that are on-board. The mission is to identify talented shooters from Odisha and nurture them to produce future winners for India.
